If you are too ill to work, you must call in sick. This is not only important for the company you work for, but also for you because all kinds of arrangements have to be made. Such as someone to replace you, as well as continued payment of your wages if you do not work. We also refer to calling in sick as 'applying for leave of absence'.
If you are ill, you should contact the Adecco Absenteeism Centre. We are only too keen to help you recover quickly and to make sure that your leave of absence is properly arranged. You can telephone the Absenteeism Centre on working days between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. and at the weekend between 8.00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m. on number 088-3746306. In emergencies the Absenteeism Centre can be reached daily between 5.00 a.m. and 12.30 a.m.
You should always call in sick to your manager at the company at which you are working and to the Adecco Absenteeism Centre (088-3746306). If you have made other agreements with Adecco about calling in sick, you should act in accordance with those agreements.
If you always start work in the morning, you should call in sick as early as possible (but no later than 9.00 a.m.). If you start working later in the day, you should call in sick no later than three hours in advance.
If you are too ill to telephone, ask somebody to do it on your behalf. Make sure that the call is made on time and that clear information is provided. This is because you are only entitled to continued payment of wages if you have called in sick correctly.
Two waiting days first apply for phase A with a temporary employment clause. You will not receive any payment for these waiting days. In order to compensate a single waiting day, you will receive 'waiting day compensation' along with your salary. As from the first day you are ill, you will be entitled to a benefit under the Sickness Benefits Act. For the first 52 weeks this benefit is 91% of your average daily wage. After that, and up to a total of 104 weeks, your benefit will be 80% of your average daily wage.
A single waiting day applies for phase A with a contract for a definite period of time and for phases B and C.
You will receive a confirmation that you have called in sick (leave of absence). This confirmation will explain that you will have daily contact with the Absenteeism Centre to discuss your recovery during the first week that you are ill.
If you are better, you should telephone the Absenteeism Centre. If you have been ill for longer than a week, please contact your absenteeism specialist. This absenteeism specialist will be assigned to you after one week's leave of absence.
